You shouldn’t be surprised that after considering every new minivan in Canada, over 20 AutoTrader experts from across the country have voted the 2026 Toyota Sienna as the Best Minivan. In a class that includes the Chrysler Pacifica, Volkswagen ID. Buzz, Honda Odyssey, and Kia Carnival, the Toyota family hauler has now won favour with our experts for the fourth straight year.
The current, fourth-generation Sienna has been around since the 2021 model year. A refresh for 2025 included some exterior styling tweaks and a few new tech features, including an all-new advanced rear seat reminder. For 2026, the Sienna’s winning fundamentals remain intact. That means best-in-class fuel economy, available all-wheel drive (AWD), and a comfortable space for up to eight on board.
Since the current Sienna arrived, it’s only been offered as a hybrid. Whether you choose front- or optional all-wheel drive, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder gas engine with electric motors and batteries develops a respectable 245 system horsepower. Not only does the Toyota minivan’s hybrid powertrain deliver ultra-smooth and impressively quick acceleration, but remarkable fuel economy is also baked into the recipe. Front-drive versions are rated at 6.6 L/100 km city, 6.5 L/100 km highway, and 6.6 L/100 km combined.
And here’s something to consider if you feel you need an SUV to get through a winter of Canadian driving. In any vehicle, AWD can elevate a driver’s confidence and control under a range of road and weather conditions, but sometimes at the cost of increased fuel consumption. Adding traction to all four of the Sienna’s wheels still doesn’t ask much from your fuel budget, with estimates of 6.8L/100 km city, 6.7 highway, and 6.8 combined.
As AutoTrader Road Test Editor Dan Ilika found when reviewing the Toyota, “There’s rarely, if ever, a time the Sienna feels underserved by the stuff that makes it go. That’s especially true for AWD examples that add a third electric motor in the back for extra traction and torque.”
According to Ilika, the Sienna is also a standout in the ride quality department, with smooth, supple handling, while the front seats offer good support and contouring for long-distance comfort. The car-like height of the Sienna also yields ride and handling characteristics similar to those of a sedan. He found the Toyota’s steering system responsive, capable of “quick changes of direction should they be required.” He also enjoyed the minivan’s outward visibility. “It’s among the Toyota’s finest features — one that doesn’t show up on a spec sheet, but that you’re sure to appreciate from the first time you settle into the driver’s seat,” he added.
The cabin’s features and functions are easy to use, with clearly labelled buttons and toggles, including the climate system, which has tactile switches and dedicated displays.
Pricing for the 2026 Sienna starts at $49,370 for the eight-passenger front-wheel-drive LE trim, which comes standard with features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, power sliding doors, and power rear hatch. If you want AWD, that will be an additional $1,840. Seven-seater versions start at the $54,420 Sienna XSE FWD level and top out at $66,355 Limited AWD, which comes loaded with luxury goodies like second-row Ottoman-style seats.
To summarize why so many of our AutoTrader experts think it's the best in this segment, Ilika noted that, “The Sienna wraps all its usefulness up in interesting looking sheet metal; just one of the ways it sets out to shed the stigma that says minivans aren’t cool — or at least make it worth living with.”
