Cadillac XT5 priced at $45,100, goes on sale in April

The all-new 2017 Cadillac XT5 crossover goes on sale across Canada in April wearing a starting price tag of $45,100, plus a $1,950 freight charge.

Key available features include the brand's new 'rear camera mirror,' which replaces the standard glass rearview mirror with a screen fed by a camera on the rear of the car. Cadillac says its innovation improves visibility by eliminating the stuff that gets in the way of a regular mirror's view, like headrests and body pillars.

The video-mirror setup will be used in the top-end Platinum trim, priced to start at $68,595. In between that and the base model will be Luxury and Premium Luxury models, but Cadillac doesn't provide prices for them.

All trims share a drivetrain that starts with a 3.6L engine making 310 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, featuring an auto start/stop system and active fuel management technology that allows it to run on four cylinders under light load. The motor comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with Cadillac's first electronic shifter, called "electronic precision shift." Optional is a so-called "twin-clutch" all-wheel drive system Cadillac says can shuttle all of the engine's power to either axle, and at the rear axle can additionally shift all power to a single wheel if conditions require it.

The new XT5 will be built at GM's plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville.
