Fast 8 to Feature Tank Conversions, Lambos and Charlize Theron
If you’re a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, then you have to respect star Vin Diesel – he plays Dominic Toretto, in case you didn’t know – for taking to social media to constantly whet our appetites for what’s coming down the pipe for the series of car crazy blockbusters.
It started with him hinting on The Tonight Show and Twitter not too long after the DVD release of Furious7 that the next movie in the franchise would take place in Manhattan, and that it would also be part of a trilogy to end the movie series. Then again, considering how much of a cash cow the series has been – it’s grossed over three billion dollars at the worldwide box office (after adjusting for inflation) – don’t be surprised if there will still be life after the 10th edition.
In addition to Manhattan, recent leaks have had the FnF crew driving 'round the frozen tundra in Iceland, piloting such oddities as the Howe & Howe “Ripsaw Luxury Tank” (“luxury” and “tank” in the same sentence… interesting) and other vehicles like the Rally Fighter and some camo’d Lambos apparently tuned for use on ice.
We’ve seen off-road Dom’s Charger, dragster Dom Charger, rat-rod Dom’s Charger... I wonder what we’ll be seeing next? The Dom’s Icelandic caterpillar-tracked Charger’s? I wouldn’t put it past the mad modifiers that make up the FnF vehicle casting crew.
Of course, while the cars are the stars of the franchise, they can only get you so far. Recently, more emphasis has been placed on the human star power involved in the movie, with all-star casting additions like Kurt Russell and Jason Statham. It appears that Fast 8 will keep that trend going. The Fast and Furious Twitter page has confirmed that Charlize Theron (we know she can drive, right?) will play the villain, with Scott Eastwood – yes, son of that Eastwood – will act as “Mr. Nobody’s protégé”, “Mr. Nobody” being the name of Russell’s character last time ‘round. Does that mean the Escape from L.A., Tombstone and The Thing star will be returning? Well, we all know how much he likes cars, so our Magic 8 Ball says “OUTLOOK GOOD”. The same goes for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who actually confirmed on Instagram that he’s already begun training for shooting.
Recently, Diesel took to Facebook to share a movie poster concept for Fast 8. Before you jump to any conclusions, the poster was created by a fan (before the official announcement, since it uses the name Furious 8), so there's no guarantee that Dom’s famous 1970 Charger or patented tight white T and dark jeans will appear in the film.
So, when will we get to get in line for Fast 8: The Social Media Edition? Official release is April 14, 2017.
