Toyota Recalls Yaris Models for Faulty Front Suspension Bearings

Jun 3, 2016

Summary
Damaged components could break and cause a loss of vehicle control

Faulty front suspension strut bearings are behind a Toyota and Transport Canada recall of more than 1,800 Yaris models sold as 2015 models.

The specific components under recall are the front suspension's strut bearings. These allow the front struts -- which combine the spring and shock absorber in a single unit -- to turn with the car's steering system. In the cars under recall, the strut bearings could be damaged and separate from the strut itself if the car is driven over large bumps, resulting in a loss of control.

Dealers are being instructed to replace the strut bearings with improved parts; if the bearings show damage, the dealer will also replace the strut and front suspension support sub-assembly.
