Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid Recalled for Faulty Electrical Connection

Jul 11, 2016

Summary
Loose connection could cause total power loss

General Motors and Transport Canada have recalled the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid sedan for an electrical connector that could come loose and cut off all power to the vehicle.

The connector in question supplies the high-voltage power to the car's drivetrain; a poor connection there will likely cause the car to stall, which could lead to a collision, depending on the traffic situation and the driver's reaction.

This recall affects 44 examples of the 2016 Malibu Hybrid; Chevrolet is asking its dealers to inspect the connector and ensure it's properly seated, and to install updated software designed to monitor the flow of power and signal an alert if it detects a poor connection.
