Volvo XC60 Canadian Specs Revealed Ahead of North American Debut

The all-new 2018 Volvo XC60, the first redesign for the model in nine years, made its debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show looking much like a smaller sibling to the brand’s award-winning XC90 large SUV.

Now, as it prepares to make its North American debut next week at the New York International Auto Show, we know more about exactly which engines and trims we can expect in Canada.

All models sold here will come with standard all-wheel drive, and while all of the powertrains on offer feature 2.0L displacements and four cylinders, the three different configurations deliver varying power outputs. The T5 engine is turbocharged for an output of 250 hp; the T6 is one of Volvo’s turbo- and super-charged Drive-E engines and will push out 316 hp; and the T8 tacks on a plug-in hybrid system for a twin-engined, 400 hp assault.

The base Momentum trim is the only one with which Canadians will be able to get the T5 powerplant, though buyers can also opt for the T6. The sportier R-Design and more luxurious Inscription trims will both be available with the T6 and T8 configurations.

Volvo is also launching two new safety technologies with the XC60: a steering assist feature has been added to the City Safety auto-braking system to help mitigate head-on collisions, and the new Oncoming Lane Mitigation feature pairs that steering assist with the blind-spot indication system to reduce risk in lane-changing conditions.

The XC60 is due in Canadian showrooms in the last quarter of this year, and we’ll undoubtedly learn more about it when it takes its bow next week in New York City.
