80 Yamaha YZF-R3s Recalled Due to Switcheroo
Yamaha is recalling a handful of 2017 YZF-R3 models in the US and Canada, and it's a bit of a sticky situation. Sorry, that's a sticker situation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of 40 of the 321 cc mini-superbikes in the US. Turns out they were fitted with Canadian certification labels instead of the US ones they should have gotten. At the same time, Transport Canada said that they were recalling 40 YZF-R3s because...You guessed it. They had American labels instead of the Canadian labels they should have gotten. Looks like somebody grabbed the wrong pack of labels at the factory.
The differences between the two labels normally aren't huge. A few details about the standards the bike meets and information about weight and tire pressures. But the Canadian one is in both official languages and the US sticker is English only.
In this case, the big problem is that the labels were put on the wrong bikes. That means that the VIN might be different from the one on the frame. And that could pose a real problem down the road.
