Toyota Set To Introduce High Performance Vehicle Range
Toyota is gearing up for the introduction next month of a range of performance-oriented vehicles along the same lines as its upscale Lexus F-brand models.
Automotive News gleaned this tidbit from a Toyota spokesperson who told them the launch is to happen in Tokyo in September.
That individual declined to get into any more detail than that, but it seems a plausible move for a company that has been talking in vague terms about making its vehicles appealing for more than just Toyota's traditionally strong reliability.
A transition away from purely pragmatic carmaking would also jive with the forthcoming return of a sports car flagship as the brand prepares to launch the Supra successor it is developing with BMW, a car that would likely be the flagship of a Toyota performance range.
Earlier this year, Toyota revealed a supercharged Yaris subcompact at the Geneva auto show as part of its GRMN line, a range of modified versions of existing models whose name references Toyota's efforts to conquer the 24 Hours Nurburgring endurance race.
We've reached out to Toyota Canada regarding the likelihood of these future high-po models coming here, but the company said it can't comment on that at this time.
