Report: Dyson to Reveal EV Plans "Imminently"
Dyson, the vacuum and hand dryer company, is due to reveal an electric vehicle of their own, according to a report from the UK.
While they're more famous for their high-end vacuums and high-volume hand dryers, the company has been linked to the development of an EV since 2008. Now a report from Autocar suggests that plans for the EV are soon to be revealed.
It started back in 2008, when a spokesperson for Dyson told Autocar that "James [Dyson] did say that our new digital motor could power a car." Although the company said at the time that they weren't working on or planning one.
More recently Dyson has made some big hires from the automotive world. David Wyer, director of purchasing for Aston Martin, joined Dyson in August. Tesla communications exec Ricardo Reyes joined Dyson earlier this year. Seeking out automotive talent suggests that the car could be in development.
Last year, a UK government document said that "the Government is funding Dyson to develop a new battery electric vehicle at their headquarters in Malmesbury, Wiltshire." It was later amended to say that the grant was for battery technology, but that still could be related to an EV.
Dyson declined to comment on the claims, but the number of crumbs dropping might be too many for even their vacuum to pick up. Autocar is saying that Dyson is expected to announce plans for the car "imminently."
