Mazda Bringing Production Concept, Design Vision Concept to Tokyo Show

Mazda is sending a pair of concepts to the Tokyo Motor Show later this month, so they are giving us a tease at what the pair will look like. One is a look at the company's next generation of cars, and one is a look at where Mazda design is headed.

Mazda calls the red silhouette a product concept model of a compact hatchback. That sounds a lot like the next Mazda 3, and the concept looks a lot like a new Mazda 3 too. Take a look at the lightened version we've made. Ignore the discolouration and you can get a much better look at the smoothly sculpted lines, sharp headlights, and the coupe-like roof that leads to an elongated hatch.

Mazda said that the concept combines next-generation Skyactiv architecture and a human-centred design philosophy. It will also showcase Mazda's Skyactiv-X compression ignition gasoline engine.

The silver car is designed to show the next generation of Mazda's Kodo design language. Mazda calls it a "more profound expression" of the design language that Mazda debuted with the CX-5 in 2012.

Mazda will show the cars at the Tokyo Motor Show, which runs at the end of this month. Accompanying the concepts will be the all-new CX-8 concept, which is a three-row crossover that has only been confirmed for the Japanese market.
