Ford Recalls F-150 Pickups For Faulty Door Latches

Ford Motor Company of Canada has recalled more than 220,000 F-150 pickup trucks to fix latches that may not hold the door closed in cold conditions.

In the affected trucks, sold as 2015 through 2017 models, the door latches are prone to water infiltration. When that water freezes in cold weather, it could prevent the latch from properly engaging with the striker on the door frame. While the door may appear closed, it could open while driving, and the frozen latch could also prevent the door from being opened.

Ford is also concerned about the possibility of broken or kinked door latch actuation cables, which connect the latch to the inner and outer door handles.

Ford is instructing its dealers to install a water shield over the latches in the affected trucks, and will replace broken or damaged cables as needed.
