Lexus Confirms Seven-Seat RX Crossover For 2018

Lexus has announced it will reveal its first-ever seven-seat crossover utility vehicle, the RX 350L, later this month at the Los Angeles auto show.

Details are few, but the news puts to rest years of speculation surrounding the Toyota luxury brand's first three-row vehicle not based on a truck chassis.

Lexus says the RX L will make its debut in a gasoline-powered form that uses the same 3.5L V6 engine and eight-speed transmission found in the current five-seat RX. The automaker will also announce - but not reveal - a future hybrid model called the RX 450hL.

The company revealed today that the RX L will "retain its stylish figure while also providing more flexibility for passengers." The way we read the new model's name, the L at least suggests a stretched body; that's how Toyota squeezes a third row into its Highlander, which shares its platform and wheelbase with the RX but already offers three-row seating.
