Find of the Week: Fast and Furious Eagle Talon

Our Find of the Week this week is fast and furious. It's not lime green, but it has one bottle. And it's a big one. This Eagle Talon has been extensively modified to go fast and make lots of power.
The name Eagle Talon might not ring a bell for all buyers, especially younger ones, but you will know the name of its more famous sibling. That's because the Eagle Talon was one of the Diamond Star Motors coupes. It shared a platform, body, and just about everything else with the Mitsubishi Eclipse. Built at a joint Mitsubishi/Chrysler factory in Illinois, they're often referred to as the DSM cars, along with the Plymouth Laser that didn't live to see the second-generation car. DSM is short for the Diamond Star Motors name of the joint venture.
Mitsubishi didn't sell cars in Canada until 2002, which means we never got the sport compact star that was the Eclipse. But we did get the nearly identical Eagle Talon, sold at Jeep dealers.
The 1998 Talon was in the second generation of the DSM cars. There was a new body on the same platform, but some big performance changes happened underneath. Like the turbocharged models getting more power from their 2.0L four-cylinders thanks to higher compression and a new turbo with more boost.
But on this car, that turbocharger is long gone. It has been replaced along with most of the rest of the engine. And most of the rest of the car.
It starts with the engine block. It's been rebuilt, getting upgraded Arias pistons, Eagle rods, and ARP studs. It's been bored out and had the deck shaved. The balance shafts were removed which increases vibration but frees up more power. And more vibration is sort of the point of a car like this.
The cylinder head has been machined, ported, and polished. It has HKS camshafts, ARP head studs for strength, and an upgraded head gasket.
The turbocharger has been replaced with a larger Garrett GT35R to flow more air and make more boost. A Turbosmart electronic boost controller helps regulate the air.
The boosted air passes through a huge front mount intercooler, a Magnus intake manifold, and a 75 mm throttle body.
Fuelling the engine is a Walbro 255 litre per hour pump and 680 cc injectors.
It's all run through an AEM standalone engine management system, tuned to make maximum power.
If all of that can't make enough power, there is a great big nitrous bottle in the back. The car is set up to add 200 hp on demand through the cooling effect and extra oxygen provided by nitrous oxide. Or, if you've been watching too much Fast and Furious, nawwss.
Of course, the changes to this car aren't limited to the engine. Underneath those Volk Racing wheels are Wilwood four-piston brake calipers to make sure this TSi can stop.
It has a full VIS body kit with new fascias front and rear, Blitz side skirts, BMW Z3-style fender vents, and carbon fibre hood. There is also a massive carbon fibre rear wing, plus taillights that...we'll go with stand out.
The suspension has been upgraded with Tein Flex coilovers. The Tein suspension has electronically adjustable damping so you can set firmness from inside the cabin.
It has Sparco seats and harness inside, along with a Sparco steering wheel. Behind the seats is a harness bar to keep you in place.
Power numbers were not provided, and unsurprisingly neither is a warranty, but safe to say that you're well past a stock 1998 Talon TSi's 210 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque.
This car is very highly modified and looks very quick. And although those body mods might not be to everyone's taste, they will get you noticed. As one of the last of the Eagles, it's pretty unusual too. This 1998 Eagle Talon TSi is for sale in London, ON, and it could be yours.
