After months of teasing the concept, Mercedes has just revealed the latest AMG. The Mercedes AMG GT 4-door adds practicality to the performance and handling of the GT coupe.
The first four-door AMG GT will come in three versions. The base car is the GT 53. It uses a 3.0L turbocharged inline six. It makes 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. It uses the Mercedes EQ Boost starter-alternator to add 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque to that output. The 48-volt hybrid system adds improved fuel economy as well as performance.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 has a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that makes 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to push the four-door to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. The GT 63 S pushes the power level to 630 and torque to 664 lb-ft. That lets it scoot to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. All three use an AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic and have AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive. The S gets drift mode that makes it rear-drive only when engaged.
Mercedes calls the AMG GT 4-Door racetrack ready, with handling like the GT coupe. Six-cylinder models use steel spring suspension with adjustable dampers. The V8 models use AMG Ride Control+ air suspension. The car uses a new rear differential mount that improves harshness while controlling the movement of the rear end. A hollow anti-roll bar helps reduce axle weight.
V8 versions of the GT 4-Door have active rear steering standard. It's optional on the six. The system increases agility at lower speeds and stability at highway speeds. The front steering is speed sensitive with a variable ratio and assist to improve handling feel and highway comfort.
Inside, the GT has twin 12.3-inch displays standard on V8s and optional on six. They can display Classic, Sport, or new Supersport gauges depending on driver preference. The latter adds AMG-specific information like a shift light. A new AMG performance steering wheel adds touch control buttons to operate the entire infotainment system without taking hands off. Fold the rear seats down, and the car has a surprisingly roomy 1,324L of cargo space available.
An AMG Track Pace function in the infotainment system monitors your driving and track telemetry and gives you real-time lap information. It shows if your current lap is faster or slower at a glance, and can help you drive more quickly on a closed course. That's on a car that seats five, so you can lap comfortably and quickly with the whole family.
The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe goes on sale this summer.
