Animated Fast & Furious Series Coming to Netflix
Netflix and DreamWorks Animation are bringing the Fast & Furious franchise to the small screen. That's right, the Fast & Furious animated series is coming to your streaming device of choice – but it won't be the same characters you're used to.
Sure, you could argue that the series is largely a cartoon now anyway, but this time it's going to be completely animated. It's not going to star Toretto and Hobbs. Not that Toretto, at least. The animated series is going to focus on teenager Tony Toretto, Dom's cousin. He and his friends are recruited into a government agency to infiltrate a racing league that's actually a front for an organized crime outfit set on world domination. Think James Bond Jr. meets Initial D, but probably more over the top.
"The Fast & Furious franchise is a global phenomenon beloved by audiences of all ages, and we can’t wait to get started on the new animated series that will capture the action, heart, humor and global appeal of the feature films," said Melissa Cobb, VP of kids and family for Netflix.
The Fast & Furious franchise has made more than US $5 billion at the box office, with two more films coming and a spin-off movie already planned. So it's little surprise that they're branching out even more.
The series is expected to debut in 2019.
