Ford Turkey Shows Off F-Vision Concept Electric Semi

Turkish electric delight

Ford's Turkish truck division, Ford Otosan has just revealed a new concept for an electric tractor trailer. The F-Vision is the company's look at the future of trucking, and could challenge Tesla's Semi should it come to production.

The F-Vision was unveiled at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018, an auto show in Hannover, Germany, dedicated to trucks, buses, and other commercial models.

It's more of a design study right now than a prototype destined for production. That means there's no powertrain or any other information. Surprisingly for a truck from Europe, the F-Vision has a bit of a nose. A nod to aerodynamics over the length constraints that make other trucks on the continent, like the Ford F-Max that won International Truck of the Year at the show, flat-nosed cabovers.

What Ford did say, though, was that the F-Vision concept would be a Level 4 autonomous vehicle. That means it can drive fully autonomously in almost every situation. Just a few would require intervention from a real driver.

Again, this is far from a production model, but it does show that Ford, and likely other major truck builders, are thinking about electricity and autonomous driving. And bringing them to the big time. And take a look at the video, the truck's pretty cool looking.
