Ford is gearing up to begin selling two all-new, all-electric mid-size crossover models in 2023 based on the brand's forthcoming specialized electric vehicle platform.

According to Automotive News, the EV crossovers will be sold as Ford and Lincoln models and will be built at the company's Flat Rock, Michigan factory, likely displacing the Lincoln Continental's assembly line.

Ford seems optimistic about market reception for these two EVs, as it is preparing to produce as many as 65,000 vehicles per year between the Ford and Lincoln variants. Auto News says three sources confirmed the two models, which are expected to be similar in size to the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus (formerly the MKX).

In 2018, Ford promised a massive investment into EVs that would see it roll out 16 electric vehicles around the world by 2022. These crossovers are the latest pieces of a puzzle that already includes another electrified crossover based on the Mustang due to arrive next year, an electric version of the F-150 pickup truck, and another battery-powered vehicle to be developed with EV startup Rivian.
