The New Batmobile is a Rear-Engined Muscle Car and We're Here for It

A new Batman movie is coming, a new reboot of the always fresh film franchise. With a new version of the classic crime fighter comes a new iteration of one of the hottest rides in town, the Batmobile. A tweet from The Batman director Matt Reeves shows us what the latest version of the best bat ride looks like, and it's a pretty cool rear-engine muscle mobile.
The original Batmobile was based on a Lincoln concept car, and the latest was a from-scratch, tractor-tired tank-like armoured vehicle with Gatling guns mounted to the nose. In between was a jet-engined version that would have put the caped crusader right in the middle of the afterburner stages and the reconfigurable and motorcycle-ejecting Tumbler. That's just on the silver screen; comic and cartoon Batmobiles range from stock 1930s sedans to planes, to even more extreme wheeled vehicles.
The latest is a post-apocalyptic-looking muscle car, like something built from a vintage Challenger to fight crime (or just survive) in a lawless wasteland. Instead of rocket power and flames, this one seems to have just a generic "engine" in the back that's doing the work.
Look closely, and we've adjusted the colour and contrast in a few of the shots, and there doesn't seem to be an intake manifold. And the exhausts go to both two giant turbochargers as well as some sort of turbine attached to the rear of the engine. Hey, it's Batman, so it's best not to overthink it. Just look at the sweet new ride for the Batman and get ready to look at it in awe when the new movie hits theatres in summer 2021.
