The Porsche 911 is going hybrid. The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS will be the first roadgoing 911 to get an electric boost, thanks to what Porsche calls the T-Hybrid system. Plus, the standard Carrera gets an updated 3.0L flat-six engine for 2025 and both get some interior and exterior refreshes.
The T-Hybrid system adds an electric motor to the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission in the 911 GTS. The motor adds 54 hp and 110 lb-ft of torque from idle to the gas engine's output. The system also includes an electric motor between the turbocharger's compressor and turbine wheels that can spool the turbo more quickly for immediate boost, but can also capture 11 kW of energy from the exhaust gas stream to feed the car's 1.9-kWh battery. The ultra-small and light lithium-ion pack is the size of a conventional Porsche starter battery and lives where the 12-volt main battery used to reside under the front hood.
The gas engine is a 3.6L boxer six-cylinder. That's 0.6L more displacement than the previous GTS, and it develops 478 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque on its own. Combined with the electric motor, the total system output is 532 hp and 449 lb-ft, 59 hp more than the previous GTS. Porsche says it will be quicker, especially from a stop, and will hit 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds.
Other changes for the 2025 Porsche 911 GTS include standard rear-axle steering with roll stabilization available as an option thanks to the upgraded electrical system. Adaptive dampers are standard, and the ride height is 10 mm lower than a normal 911 Carrera.
Both 911 Carrera and GTS models get a facelift. The front fascias are new and model-specific, and Porsche has combined the turn signals into the car's new matrix LED lamps. That means larger air intakes for more cooling. GTS models get five vertical active air flaps in the nose and adaptive front diffusers that can move to optimize aerodynamics or maximize cooling, whichever the car needs most at the time.
Standard 911 Carrera models get a new intercooler for the 3.0L flat-six taken from the 911 Turbo. The turbochargers are new, too, snagged from the last-generation GTS. The changes push output up 9 hp to 388, with 331 lb-ft of torque on tap.
Inside, the 911 is now a two-seater, at least as standard. The +2 rear seat that was standard is now an option, but adding it doesn't add to the cost of the car. Other changes include a fully digital dashboard, new steering wheel controls, and, for the first time, a start button instead of a key-shaped crank on the left side of the wheel.
Order books for the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera are open now, and it is available as a coupe or convertible. The 2025 GTS is also offered with both body styles, and with rear- or all-wheel drive. The Targa GTS is AWD only this year, and they all come with the PDK automatic standard. Deliveries of the 911 Carrera start in the fall, and GTS models arrive at the end of the year. Other 911 models including the Turbo and GT3 RS carry over for 2025 unchanged.
