2025 BMW 3 Series, M3 Get Updated Styling and More Power

BMW has upgraded its long-standing 3 Series sedan by endowing it with a raft of powertrain and styling updates.

The changes have also extended to the M3, which now boasts a power boost and tweaked styling cues in the exterior and interior.

Available in two trims, the 330i xDrive and M340 i xDrive, the 3 Series now comes in two new colours: Article Race Blue Metallic and Vegas Red Metallic. The 3 Series also has new 19-inch wheels, whereas the M3 gets new LED headlights with arrow-shaped daytime running lights.

The biggest change has been introduced to the powertrain with both trims of the 3 Series featuring 48V mild-hybrid tech. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine on the base 330i xDrive produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine in the M340i xDrive now produces 386 hp and 398 lb-ft, which is 4 hp and 30 lb-ft more than last year’s model. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain can help propel the M340i xDrive to 100 km/h from a standstill in a claimed 4.3 seconds.

On the other hand, the base M3 continues to offer the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine that’s paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and produces 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It’s the M3 Competition M xDrive that sees the most changes with the uprated powertrain now developing 523 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, 20 hp more than last year.

Courtesy of the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the M3 Competition can now achieve 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds. BMW also said that it has reworked the chassis on both the 3 Series and M3 to improve sportiness and comfort.

Inside, the refreshed 3 Series now gets two new steering wheels, with the base 330i sporting a two-spoke wheel and the M340i featuring a three-spoke flat-bottomed one that’s also optional in the former via the M Sport Package. New trim materials have also been introduced, with a new dark graphite trim piece standard on the base 330i and an aluminum one on the M340i. Carbon fibre trim is optional on both versions and standard on the M3.

A new operating system has also been introduced for the curved display that comprises a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. BMW says that this new system allows for easier operation of the climate control, with the seat and wheel heating now able to be controlled either by touch using a dedicated menu option in the lower area of the control display or by voice command.

The brand has announced the prices for both variants of the refreshed 3 Series and M3, starting at $56,900 and going up to $99,200 in Canada. The brand will begin production for the former in Canada in August while the latter will be launched in July.
