Mini Reveals 2025 John Cooper Works Coupe and Convertibles

New Mini JCW gets more torque, new looks

Mini's meanest model is back. The British automaker known for its diminutively named cars (that aren't actually all that small anymore) has just revealed the latest in its high-performance lineup: the John Cooper Works versions of its coupe and convertible, which offer 228 hp from their turbocharged two-liter engines.

If you were expecting more power from the latest JCW Minis, we're sorry to disappoint you. That 2.0L turbo-four's 228 hp figure is the same as the last-gen John Cooper Works. It does make a whole load of extra torque, with 280 lb-ft putting it 45 torques higher than last year. Also like last year, the only transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Cooper coupe should hit 100 km/h in six seconds, while the heavier convertible should take closer to seven.

Even if the engine isn't that new, the car around it is. It shares the body and new chassis that launched with the non-John models of the Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper Convertible. There are plenty of JCW-specific touches, though.

It starts with the high-gloss black octagonal grille with a tri-colour John Cooper Works logo. There are also wider air vents as well as additional air inlets market with red reflectors. The vents allow for better engine temperature control and Mini says they improve the car's aerodynamics.

A new spoiler at the rear (on the coupe) and a rear diffuser also help the shape move through the air. Like all JCW Minis, the tailpipe shoots straight out of the center of the rear bumper, and it has a sportier-sounding exhaust to blow through.

Mini is offering the John Cooper Works models in 11 shades that can be had with a contrast red or black roof and mirror caps. Just the caps are contrastable on Convertible models. One of those new paint colours is a Copper Grey that is exclusive to the JCW models.

The automaker didn't discuss the new chassis in detail but said that the JCW models would have the Mini's typical "go-kart feeling" and agile handling. This version of the Mini is usually lower and stiffer than other models, with low-profile performance tires.

Cooper Works details in the inside include extensive use of red and black trim. These cars have heavily bolstered sports seats and a JCW sports steering wheel that boasts a red stripe at the six-o-clock position. Mini has added the black and red JCW pattern to the knitted surface on the dash to help add some cohesion to the design.

This model has the same new large OLED infotainment screen as its standard counterparts. The 9.4-inch screen is joined with a head-up display that functions as the gauge cluster. Convertible models will also have the Mini's fold-forward "sunroof" section and will offer a British Union Jack flag stitched into the top as an option.

Mini did not announce pricing or availability for the two, but we expect them in February with a starting price around $50,000.
