Summary
More practicality and a bit more performance. What's not to love?

Kia took the wraps off the North American version of the K4 hatchback at the New York International Auto Show today. The new model gives buyers a little bit of room inside and a little extra performance.

The not-quite-hot hatch version is dubbed the K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo, and it's powered by Kia’s 1.6L turbocharged engine. Although the 190-horsepower unit is shared with the K4 sedan, the hatchback will get exclusive suspension tuning for a sportier driving experience. We’ll just have to wait and see if a full-on hot hatch K4 GT will follow.

Like the sedan, the K4 Hatchback will also be available with a 2.0L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that makes 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque (the 1.6L delivers 195 lb-ft). It funnels its power to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT) while the 1.6L engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic.

The sporty GT-Line Turbo model gets bigger 16-inch front brakes that hide under its 18-inch alloy wheels. It also gets small cube LED headlights, LED fog lights, a standard power sunroof, as well as gloss black mirror caps, side sills, and wheel arch moldings. Inside, a three-spoke steering wheel features paddle shifters.

Regardless of which trim level consumers opt for, the K4 can be finished in Sparkling Yellow exterior paint, a colour that is exclusive to the hatchback. Due to its lack of a trunk, the model is 279 mm (11 inches) shorter than the sedan. However, it has the same amount of legroom as the sedan, as well as an extra inch of headroom for rear seat passengers, and 628.6 L of cargo space behind the rear seats (the sedan has just 413 L). Cargo capacity increases to 1,680 L with the rear seats folded down.

Like the sedan, the K4 Hatchback will get Kia’s large widescreen infotainment system that is comprised of a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument display behind the steering wheel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the lineup, while higher trim models will be available with a Harman Kardon audio system and smart key technology.

The model will be offered with Kia’s full suite of advanced driver assistance technology. That includes standard lane keep assistance and adaptive cruise control. Optional extras include evasive steering assistance and Highway Driving Assist 2, which helps keep the car centred in its lane and maintains its speed.

Set to hit Canadian roads in late 2025, pricing for the 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback will be announced at a later date along with fuel economy figures.
