Summary
Four-motor Rivians claim the title of most powerful electric SUVs.

Rivian unveiled performance details for its four-motor option for the R1S and R1T models. Named the Quad, and equipped with a motor at each wheel, the new version will have 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft, giving it the title of most powerful electric SUV. All this power can take the Rivian Quad from 0-100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.

The automaker estimates that the four-motor variants will be able to go 602 km per charge in government testing, and up to 643 km in economy mode. Rivian’s owners will now be able to access the Tesla charging network through a native NACS port.

The Quad will also come with a few new party tricks, in particular the ability to perform  a quick 180 degree rotation on loose surfaces which Rivian calls “Kick Turn”. The Quad will also feature a new RAD tuner which will allow owners to tailor the Rivians performance to their own needs. This feature allows for the manual adjustment of driving dynamics like ride height, torque balance, damping, and roll stiffness.

Both the R1T and R1S Quad will come with additional visual touches to differentiate them as the top of the line model. Particularly, the use of Rivian’s mascot, Gear Guard, which can be found on the trunk appearing to be blown back by wind caused by the Quad’s performance.

The Quad will also come with two exclusive wheel options, one set designed for off-road performance and one for on-road. To further differentiate the exterior, the Quad comes with Laguna Beach Blue accents around for the badges, skid plate and brakes.

For a limited time, Rivian will offer a Launch Edition that gives buyers the option of either Launch Green or Storm Blue, paired with exclusive bronze wheels and special interior badging. The Launch Edition will also come with a rugged key fob and portable camping speaker.

Pricing starts at $207,990 for the Launch Edition R1S and $196,990 for the Launch Edition R1T, with deliveries expected to take between 8-12 weeks.
