Mazda unveiled the third-generation, 2026 CX-5 today, and promises that it will offer more space inside for occupants and a bigger infotainment screen to compete in one of the industry’s busiest segments.
In order entice families focused on practicality, Mazda has made the 2026 CX-5 11.4 cm (4.5 inches) longer than the 2025 model. In addition, the wheelbase is 7.6 cm (3 inches) longer than it previously was and the crossover grows by more than 1 cm (0.5 inches) in width, to make the cabin more comfortable for occupants.
Not only will people be more comfortable once they're in the CX-5, getting them (and their stuff) in and out of it will be easier, too. Mazda says it has worked to make the crossover’s door opening larger to make it easier to climb into. In addition, the cargo area’s floor is more than a centimeter (0.5 inches) lower to make loading it easier. In addition, the cargo area is 5 cm (2 inches) longer to accommodate more luggage.
On top of making it more spacious, Mazda has worked to make the CX-5’s cabin more functional. The automaker says the interior is uncluttered and features a mix of high-quality materials. Buyers will be able to pick from one of seven interior colour palettes that combines with new ambient lighting to create an attractive cabin.

The centrepiece of the new interior will be up front, though. The 2026 CX-5 gains a 15.6-inch touchscreen, which is over 5-inches larger than the 2025 model’s screen. Moreover, it’s the largest infotainment screen Mazda has ever fitted to one of its vehicles.
The screen will be powered using Google Built-in technology, that allows occupants to use the tech company’s latest offerings, such as Google Assistant and Google Maps. Drivers will also have access to the Google Play Store, which will allow them to download approved apps.
As to what will power the rest of the vehicle, that will be a 2.5L, four-cylinder engine that makes 187 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive will be offered as standard.
In 2027, the CX-5 will gain a new, hybrid powertrain. New to the brand, Mazda promises that the electrified powertrain will offer drivers more power and efficiency, but figures have not yet been shared with the world.
Unfortunately, pricing for the 2026 Mazda CX-5 has not yet been revealed. More information is expected closer to when the crossover goes on sale, next spring.
