Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge, Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler (among others), is once again shrinking its lineup of electrified vehicles. The automaker has confirmed that all of the plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) it currently sells will be discontinued as of 2026. It appears that the decision will not affect its upcoming electrified vehicles, though.
“Stellantis will phase out plug-in hybrid (PHEV) programs in North America beginning with the 2026 model year,” a Stellantis Canada spokesperson told AutoTrader via email. The company will “focus on more competitive electrified solutions, including hybrid and range-extended vehicles.”
That means that the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Jeeps Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe will all be discontinued. As we previously reported, plans for a Jeep Gladiator 4xe were nixed before the vehicle even made it out onto the road.
However, the hybrid 2026 Jeep Cherokee, the all-electric Jeep Recon, and the range-extended Ram 1500 REV — put simply, an electric vehicle with a gas engine that only serves to generate power to charge the batteries — still appear to be parts of Stellantis’ future product plans.
The move is hardly surprising coming from Stellantis, which recently cancelled plans for an exclusively electric Ram pickup truck, a PHEV Gladiator, and reintroduced the V8 to the Ram 1500. With the arrival of the Trump administration, which has rolled back environmental regulations and all but ended penalties for automakers whose vehicles over pollute, the incentive to produce green vehicles has shrunk significantly.
However, it is worth noting that engineering and production issues may also have propelled Stellantis to end its plug-in hybrid program. The 4xes and the Pacifica Hybrid have been real problem children for the automaker.
The minivan has been the subject of frequent recalls, many of which relate to the powertrain and could lead to a fire while the vehicle is charging. Meanwhile, The Drive reported earlier this week that the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe are both currently under stop sale orders in the U.S. due to safety recalls.
