Summary
Acura confirms that the next RDX will be the first to feature its two-motor hybrid technology.

A generational update is soon coming for the Acura RDX and it will bring with it not just new looks but brand new powertrain. The upcoming, fourth-generation SUV will be the Japanese premium brand’s first to feature a two-motor hybrid powertrain.

Acura says this is part of a plan to sell internal combustion, hybrid, and all-electric vehicles in the coming years. Unfortunately, the automaker did not share any details relating to the new powertrain.

While official information is not available, it is worth noting that Honda’s CR-V Hybrid features a hybrid powertrain with two electric motors. They are assisted by a 2.0L four cylinder engine, and altogether, they combine to make 204 hp, 247 lb-ft of torque, and burn an average of 6.4 L/100 km in combined driving.

Interestingly, although Acura says that the fourth-generation RDX will arrive at Canadian dealerships in the “next couple of years,” it has confirmed that production of the current, third-generation RDX will end in the first half of this year, to prepare for assembly of the next-gen model.

On the road since 2019, the third-generation Acura RDX first hit our roads in 2019, and has been a success for the brand. In Canada, Acura sold more than 9,700 examples in its first year on the road and managed similar sales figures in subsequent years (with the exception of pandemic-affected 2022).

"We are excited to introduce our fourth-generation RDX as it will be the first Acura powered by our all-new, dual motor, hybrid-electric system," said Nathan Muir, Acura Canada's assistant VP. "The RDX has been very popular with Canadians since its introduction in 2006, this new hybrid model diversifies the Acura family as we will soon offer a mix of hybrid, EV and ICE models, all part of our strategy to provide our customers with a variety of premium and performance focused vehicles."
