Next-Gen Charger to Gain Turbo Four?

Despite a couple of face lifts, the Dodge Charger has been around since 2005. That's a long time for any car these days, and despite the recent addition of Hellcat power the heavy rear-drive sedan is starting to show its age. Automotive News is reporting that sources within Chrysler are talking about the all-new replacement that is said to be due sometime shortly after 2020.

Expect one more refresh on the current chassis for 2019, but then we'll get a brand new one which is reported to be destined for a stretched version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia's Giorgio platform. A couple of big changes will be on the way, with the biggest also being the smallest. That is, the weight should be smaller, with a targeted curb weight some 225 kg lighter than the current car without a significant change in length.

It is also reported that that next-generation Charger will get the near 300 hp turbocharged four dubbed the Hurricane that we've already talked about as being destined for the next Jeep Wrangler.

A styling mould was shown to dealers at a convention last year, and based on the mould, the all-new car is said to strongly resemble the 1999 Charger concept car penned by then styling chief Tom Gale. Hopefully it'll be an updated look over that concept, because even a gorgeous concept starts to look dated after 17 years.
