Turbocharged Fords Under Recall for Potential Oil Leak
Summary
Leaking oil plus heat could equal fire
Transport Canada says a small number of Ford vehicles powered by the brand's EcoBoost turbocharged engines present a fire risk and are under recall for a fix.
In 126 cars that include the Taurus sedan, Flex and Lincoln MKT crossovers and Explorer SUVs done up for police duty, an oil supply line to the turbocharger could leak oil onto hot surfaces and potentially cause a fire. All the vehicles are 2017 models, save the Taurus, which is a 2016.
In turbocharged cars, oil is directed to the turbocharger for lubrication; turbos generate a lot of heat and require a dedicated oil supply to keep bearings from overheating and failing.
Ford is asking its dealer service departments inspect the cars in question and replace the oil lines as required.
