Transport Canada Recalls AT-AT Walkers Due to Risk of Toppling
Transport Canada's latest recall covers what might be the largest vehicle ever recalled, and it comes from a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away. A fix is not yet available, but the Empire says that it may be forthcoming.
The recall covers All-Terrain Armoured Transport (or AT-AT) walkers built by the Galactic Empire. The problem lies in the hydraulic systems. When the walkers are being operated to destroy Rebel bases in extreme cold temperatures like those found on the planet Hoth, or in Northern Canada in the winter, the system could fail.
If the hydraulics get too cold and fail, Transport Canada reports that cannon tracking could be affected, meaning that the Imperial troops operating the walker would be unable to hit their targets. More importantly, the walker could lose balance control. A loss of balance control means that unstable walkers are more likely to fall, or can be more easily toppled by tripwires and cables.
If the AT-AT falls over, the resulting crash could result in serious injury to Imperial troops operating in or around the walker. Transport Canada says that a fix hasn't yet been developed.
If you're wondering what this recall is all about, today is May the Fourth, known throughout the universe (at least to fans of the series) as Star Wars day. Look out tomorrow for the revenge of the fifth.
