Nissan, Infiniti To Add Six EVs In The Next Five Years

Nissan and its upscale Infiniti brand will bring six battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to market in the next five years.

Automotive News reports that four of the vehicles will come under the Nissan banner with the balance being added to the Infiniti range.

While Nissan was the first to bring an affordable EV to market with its Leaf in 2012, the company has not added any new battery-powered vehicles to its lineup since then, though it did redesign the Leaf into a second-generation model in 2017.

Meanwhile, the 2018 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid is that brand's only current electrified model. Infiniti's most recent fuel-saving innovation is a four-cylinder engine with a variable compression ratio conceived to lend the QX50 small crossover car-like economy while preserving acceleration performance.

Nissan has not provided details of what form its future EVs will take, but it added that starting in 2021, all new Infiniti models will be full electrics or range-extended EVs. The company has stated that its future design direction has been foreshadowed by concept vehicles such as the Nissan Xmotion and Infiniti Q at the Detroit auto show in January.
