Want to Tell the Cars Around You What You Think?

May 1, 2018

Summary
Now THIS is vehicle to vehicle communication

Ever wish you could communicate with the car behind you? You know, drop them a message. Like "hey, nice driving," or "thanks for letting me in!" A new startup is crowdsourcing funding to let you do just that.

MotoChat and CarChat use an LED board and your smartphone to let you display messages to the vehicles behind you.

The idea is simple. Take a Bluetooth microphone and connect it to your phone and the LED sign. The app uses voice recognition to turn your words into letters and show the messages on the LED sign behind you.

MotoChat is aimed at motorcyclists who want to communicate with the cars around them using a license plate frame message board. CarChat uses a larger board to give car drivers the same communication ability.

Gael Billebault, the inventor of the device, was inspired to create it after a motorcycle accident that left him in a coma. The driver's excuse for the accident? They didn't see him.

On top of the vehicle to vehicle messages, the system offers emergency response. MotoChat uses a gyroscope to detect a fall. If the motorcycle rolls more than 67 degrees, like in a fall, the system sends a warning message with a GPS location to a preset number. That lets them know to send emergency services to your location. It will also show an alert when the bike is detected to be braking hard.

So if you want to send a message on the move, to the car behind you or an emergency contact, MotoChat and CarChat help you do it. And of course, you'd only send nice messages. Right? An Indiegogo campaign runs until the end of the month.
