2025 Mini Cooper 5 Door Arrives With More Space and a Big Round Screen

Summary
The Mini Cooper 5 Door has classic looks and a lot more space.

The latest-generation Mini Cooper 5 Door has finally been revealed and it will provide drivers with the brand's trademark go-kart-like driving experience, but with more doors and more space.

From a design standpoint, the 2025 Mini Cooper 5 Door is, well, familiar. The new car looks like a Mini Cooper 3 Door that was inflated by a few percentage points. Don’t let the apparent lack of exterior differentiation fool you, though. There are big changes inside, where luggage space has more than tripled, growing from 275 litres in the three-door model to 925 litres in the 5 Door. There’s also room to sit three passengers comfortably in the back thanks to what the automaker describes as a noticeably wider interior.

Overall, the Mini Cooper 5 Door is 4,036 mm long, 1,744 mm wide, and 1,464 mm tall. That’s 172 mm longer than the three-door variant but it’s almost identical to the last-generation Mini Cooper 5 Door.

In terms of interior design, simplicity was the name of the game for Mini’s designers. A circular OLED touchscreen that's 244 mm in diameter sits in the centre of the cockpit, dominating the dash. It's powered by Mini Operating System 9, which means that all vehicle functions can be controlled by the driver’s voice. If you prefer to use your finger, the top of the screen focuses on vehicle-related information, while the lower half is reserved for navigation, media, phone, and climate control functions.

You might be surprised to discover that there is no instrument cluster screen next to it. Although the dash is naked behind the steering wheel, an optional heads-up display will provide drivers with information about their speed and revs.

Mini hasn’t yet provided us with Canada-specific details for the model, but has revealed that it will offer an Essential, Classic, and JCW trim. The first features fabric seats with a matching fabric strip on the dash.

The Classic Trim features a three-spoke steering wheel, as opposed to the standard two spoker in the Essential Trim. A 2D knitted textile strip with a houndstooth pattern can be found on the wheel’s bottom spoke, as well as on the dashboard and doors. Meanwhile, the seats are upholstered in imitation leather. The JCW Trim also combines textiles and faux leather but adds red contrast stitching for a sporty look. Outside, the Mini Cooper 5 Door will be offered in 11 body colours that can be matched to a selection of three roof colours.

Under the hood, Mini will offer buyers the choice between a three- and a four-cylinder engine. The smaller power plant makes 154 horsepower and can get the Mini Cooper 5 Door up to 100 km/h in eight seconds flat. The larger engine generates 201 hp, enough to get the car up to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Canadian pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.
