2025 BMW X3 Gets Sleek New Styling Inside and Out

Design has been one of the most controversial elements of all modern BMWs, but with the all-new 2025 X3, the automaker has managed to make something that looks modern and attractive.
Unveiled today, the new crossover features a relatively restrained kidney grille, modern lighting elements, and a carefully sculpted body that is unfussy while also conforming to modern BMW styling conventions. It’s also larger and more powerful than the outgoing model.
To start, the model will be available in two trims: the X3 30 xDrive and the X3 M50 xDrive. The former is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four that makes 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and the latter gets a 3.0L turbocharged inline-six that makes 393 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. Both engines feature 48V “mild hybrid” technology to help deliver quicker response when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. In the X3 30 xDrive, that translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds, but the automaker hasn’t shared the X3 M50 xDrive’s time yet.
The new model comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, but 20- and 21-inch options will also be available. The standard X3 will be offered with nine metallic colours, two “frozen” shades, and one solid option. Buyers who opt for the X3 M50 xDrive will also be offered one solid shade and two frozen paint options, but they will only get to choose from one of seven metallic colours.
For those who want a sporty look but don’t mind a four-cylinder engine, the M Sport package can be added to the X3 30 xDrive. The option adds 20-inch M alloy wheels, M Sport brakes and suspension, variable sport steering, and aerodynamic design cues to improve airflow. The M Sport Plus Package adds an illuminated grille (which is standard on the X3 M50 xDrive), blue or red painted brake calipers (the X3 M50 xDrive comes with blue ones as standard), black exterior trim, and more.
Big changes have been made to the simplified interior of the X3, too. A BMW curved display sits on a dash that, for the first time in BMW history, can be covered in an optional woven fabric. The dash is bracketed by illuminated sections that extend onto the doors and contain the X3’s vents and door handles. A selection of Veganza (vegan leather) and Merino Leather seating options are available for both models, while the X3 M50 xDrive can be equipped with optional M Veganza and Alcantara seats with blue contrast stitching.
The new infotainment system runs on BMW Operating System 9, which allows owners to download updates, features, and apps over the air. Since the system runs on Android Open Source Project software, owners will be able to download programs like Spotify, as well as video games, right onto their touchscreens.
The 2025 BMW X3 will also offer advanced convenience features, such as a parking assistant that allows the SUV to place itself in a parking spot, and can be controlled from outside the vehicle. Safety features like lane keep assist, collision avoidance, and distance control will also be available.
Overall, the 2025 X3 is 34 mm longer and 29 mm wider than its predecessor, though it is also 16 mm shorter than the model it replaces. That makes the new SUV look sportier and allows it to hold up to 1,700 litres of cargo with the rear seats folded down. With an optional trailer hitch affixed to it, the SUV will be able to tow up to 2,200 kg (4,850 lb).
BMW plans to put the all-new 2025 X3 into production at its Spartanburg, South Carolina, plant later this year, and it will arrive on Canadian showroom floors in the fourth quarter of this year. Prices for the model start at $58,900, while the sporty X3 M50 xDrive will cost at least $74,900.
