Volkswagen ID. Buzz Arrives at Canadian Showrooms, Gets Four-Year Charging Plan
Customer deliveries of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz have finally begun and the automaker announced today that new owners will also get 1,400 kWh of free DC fast-charging at Electrify Canada charging stations.
Owners will have four years to consume those kilowatts, which amount to a little over 15 full charges of the 91 kWh battery pack. It’s worth remembering that users tend not to fill their tank, as it were, in the same way that owners of internal combustion vehicles do. Few EV drivers ever charge their vehicle from 0 to 100 per cent at a roadside charging station (and most charging stops are time-limited) so it would definitely take considerably more than 15 trips to the station to use that up.
Put another way, based on Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) combined electricity consumption rating of 25.3 kWh/100 km, Volkswagen is offering owners over 5,500 km of free fast charging.
Electrify Canada, which was set up by Volkswagen in the wake of the dieselgate scandal, has more than 200 DC fast charging stations in seven provinces across Canada, which can meet the ID. Buzz’s top electricity acceptance rate of 200 kW.
The ID. Buzz is a modern take on Volkswagen’s classic microbus and is available with a single, rear-mounted motor, or two motors that provide it with all-wheel drive. The former model delivers 282 hp, while the latter is capable putting 335 hp to the road.
Prices for the all-electric van start at $77,495 in Canada.
