BMW Showcases Off-Road Edition M2 Dakar We Wish Was Real

Unfortunately, BMW decided to play with our hearts by showing off an off-road tuned version of the BMW M2, and it would be every bit as good as we’d imagined, if only it was real.
Sadly just an April Fools gag, the concept takes a standard M2 and adds every off-roading accessory imaginable: large off-road tires, a lift kit, and a widebody kit take the M2 from a sporty coupe to a machine prepared to tackle the harsh desert sands.
Other additions include a large roof-mounted light bar for nighttime visibility, and a roof rack for carrying all the gear you’d need in the desert. To top off the exterior, the M2 Dakar is finished with the classic red, white and blue BMW M-sport racing livery.
As for the interior the Dakar gets bucket seats, and a specially designed navigation system optimized for off-roading. The overall package makes for a very compelling concept, and a theoretically new direction for BMW, which is a brand without much (four-wheel) off-road heritage.
If BMW were to actually produce this car, it would likely draw massive attention. The recent releases of the Porsche 911 Dakar, and Lamborghini Hurrucan Sterrato showed us that there is not only demand, but excitement for off-road versions of performance cars. If the M2 Dakar was produced it's likely the response would be similar, and it's a big disappointment that this car won’t make production — funny joke BMW.
BMW wasn’t the only brand to have some fun on April Fools.
For April 1st only, Volkswagen UK is offering a free tattoo with the purchase of one of its vehicles. This is a great way to show loyalty to the brand, with VW offering a tattoo of each one of its current models, or the VW logo, it's the buyer's choice! There is no better way to celebrate the purchase of a brand new car by also showing it off on your wrist… or lower back if you’re feeling a little more risque.
Honda, on the other hand, showcased a brand new accessory for your feline companion. Honda is offering catnip seats for those who feel their cats need a little more entertainment on car trips. Cats can now fully experience the joys of car journeys with catnip embedded directly into either leather or cloth seats; your cat will no longer be irritated, but your interior may not be as well preserved.
