Kia’s first all-electric sedan, the 2026 EV4, was unveiled today at the New York International Auto Show. With up to 531 km of automaker-estimated range, the electric vehicle (EV) brings exotic styling and big range in a small package.
Canadian consumers will be offered the choice of five EV4 trim levels: Light FWD (front-wheel drive) Standard Range, Wind FWD/AWD (all-wheel drive) Long Range, Wind Premium FWD/AWD Long Range, GT-Line FWD/AWD Long Range, and GT-Line Limited FWD/AWD Long Range.
The EV4 FWD Standard Range will be powered by a 58.3-kWh battery pack that Kia estimates will be good for 378 km of range. The long-range models will get an 81.4-kWh battery pack that should be good for as many as 531 km of range per charge, depending on trim.
Equipped with a standard Tesla-style charging port (NACS), the model will be able to recharge quickly, too. With the smaller battery, Kia estimates that it can go from 10 to 80 per cent state of charge in just 29 minutes, while the larger battery needs 31 minutes to do the same. The models will have vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, which will allow them to power your laptop, lights, or other small electronics.
In the front-wheel-drive models, the power will be routed to the wheel by a 201-hp motor located at the front of the car. Powertrain details for the AWD models were not shared by Kia at the New York International Auto Show. However, other small EVs based on the same platform (such as Europe’s EV3) use two electric motors that combine to make 308 hp. Range estimates for these models were not available at the time of writing.
Kia has revealed that the EV4 will come standard with a wide variety of driver assistance and active safety systems. These include driver attention warning, forward collision assistance, lane following assistance, intelligent speed limit assist, and driver hands-on detection to ensure the driver’s hands are on the steering wheel when they use the assistance systems.
Control of these features will run through Kia’s widescreen display, which is comprised of twin 12.3-inch screens — one behind the steering wheel and one in the middle of the dash. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available, and a smaller five-inch screen will handle the climate controls.
Outside, the EV4 benefits from familiar styling that it shares with Kia’s other EV models (such as the EV9 and the upcoming EV5). Beyond being a legible part of the brand’s design language, the EV4 sedan is also very aerodynamic, with a coefficient of drag of just 0.23 — similar to the Porsche Taycan Turbo.
The Light and Wind trim levels will be equipped with 17-inch wheels, while the Wind Premium and GT-Line will benefit from 19-inch wheels. More information about these models, including pricing, will be available closer to when the model goes on sale in early 2026.
