Summary
The new-old EV will start at around $5,000 less than the Equinox EV.

The Chevrolet Bolt is back, and it’s bringing a relatively affordable price tag and pretty good battery range, while wrapping it all in an uncannily familiar package.

Set to arrive in Canadian showrooms in the first three months of 2026, the 2027 Bolt will have a starting price of $43,470, including dealer fees and other non-negotiable charges. That’s around $5,000 less than the Equinox EV, which will be larger and will go farther.

However, with an affordability crisis hitting drivers in the wallet, the (re-)introduction of a relatively cheap electric vehicle (EV) is welcome news. And it helps that the Bolt will be able to travel up to 410 km per charge, according to the automaker’s estimates.

Oddly, the design of the exterior is almost identical to the model that went out of production in 2023. Chevrolet has, however, added a new RS trim that gets unique grille badging, black wheels, black roof rails, and features fun colour combinations, such as Atomic Yellow exterior paint with red stitching inside, or the Habanero Orange pictured here.

Although the 2027 Bolt looks more or less unchanged from the outside, Chevrolet has updated the EV’s underpinnings. There’s a new electric drive unit that is more efficient (though power figures have not yet been shared by the automaker) and owners will be able to charge their battery 2.5 times faster than the Bolt of old (which was discontinued in 2023) thanks to 150 kW DC fast-charging capability. As a result, Chevy says drivers will be able to fill their battery from 10 to 80 per cent state of charge in just 26 minutes.

Not only will new owners be able to charge faster, they’ll be able to plug in at Tesla charging stations. The 2027 Bolt will be the first Chevy equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug.

Inside, the new Bolt benefits from updated tech, including an 11.3-inch infotainment screen and an 11-inch instrument screen for the driver. The infotainment screen runs on Google Built-in technology, meaning native access to the tech company’s maps app and its voice assistant.

Meanwhile, the 2027 Bolt will get GM’s latest safety technology, including collision mitigation, rear automatic braking, and rear cross traffic alert, among others.

Some other design changes have been made to the interior to make it more open and practical. The drive selector has moved to the column to provide more storage space between the seats, and a space for a wireless phone charger under the physical HVAC controls.

The only bad news in all of this is that Chevrolet says the 2027 Bolt will be a limited run model, which may go some way to explaining why it looks so familiar. When reached for comment, Chevrolet spokesperson Erin Strulovitch would not clarify how limited the new run will be.

"Bolt will be available for a limited time, it will join Equinox EV as one of our highest volume EVs at Chevrolet," Strulovitch told AutoTraded. "What’s clear is Chevrolet will not abandon affordability as a cornerstone value."
