New details suggest the Toronto rapper was interested in the ultra-rare supercar.

Canadian hip-hop star, Drake, was allegedly once interested in buying a multi-million dollar supercar that was recently seized by the FBI as part of its investigation into former Team Canada Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding’s alleged drug empire.

The car, a 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster, is one of just six ever built and was valued at around CA$18 million. Last week, the FBI posted a photo of it on Instagram, where it said the car had been seized as part of its investigation into Wedding, but did not elaborate further.

Now, the CBC reports that the car was purchased by Rolan Sokolovski, who the FBI claims was one of Wedding’s chief money launderers. A jeweller based in Toronto, Sokolovski was arrested last month and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing. He faces extradition to the U.S. and is accused of forming an integral part of a criminal conspiracy to help legitimize ill-gotten money using crypto currency and luxury goods, like the Mercedes supercar.

The bill of sales lists Miami, Florida, dealership Curated Vintage Supercars as being involved in the sale. Indeed, a representative from the location, Hershel Zelcer, confirmed to the CBC that the dealership handed the car over to the FBI last month.

Dubbed one of the “most epic” cars ever to arrive at the dealership by Zelcer, he said that the CLK GTR Roadster once belonged to the royal family of Abu Dhabi, and had originally been sourced for Drake, though the deal eventually fell through.

“There might have been some miscommunications, but Drake didn’t show up to the party,” Zelcer said.

Meanwhile, he said that Sokolovski was a “very disarming individual” and that he “never suspected he had anything to do” with the crimes both he and Wedding, among others, are accused of.

It remains unclear what will happen to the car, identified as the fifth of six Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadsters ever built. Although vehicles seized by federal law enforcement agencies are often auctioned off, this is believed to be one of the most valuable vehicles ever taken by the FBI.

Effectively a race car for the road, the V12-powered supercar was built to satisfy regulations imposed by governing body that oversees endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
